Laser Surgery

The health of your pet is as important to us as it is to you. It is therefore a great pleasure for us to offer laser surgery as an option that provides a safe treatment, reducing bleeding and postoperative pain. For some surgeries, the laser can replace the scalpel and provide an alternative to traditional surgery.

What is laser?

This is a device that generates an intense and consistent flow of amplified light that can cut, seal or vaporize soft tissue.

Why do laser surgery?

  • Less Pain: The laser seals nerve endings during surgery, so your pet will experience less pain and more comfort postoperatively.
  • Less Bleeding: For the incision, the laser will cauterize and seal small blood vessels by a process called photo- coagulation. This greatly reduces blood loss.
  • Specific incision: he laser is very precise. A perfect incision avoids damage to adjacent tissues. Also, the photo- coagulation facilitates the surgeon’s work as bleeding does not block her view.

Is this a new technology?

For over thirty years, laser technology has been used on humans successfully. All accumulated knowledge in human medicine also applies to veterinary medicine. There are now hundreds of veterinarians who offer this safe and secure option that is laser surgery

How does the laser work?

The different properties of the laser are determined by the different wavelengths of light it produces. For example, the most frequently used laser for surgery is a CO2 laser which produces a visible light beam, it vaporizes the water contained in the skin and other soft tissues. Since the physician can precisely direct the laser, only a thin layer of tissue is removed, leaving intact the surrounding healthy areas.

Cases in which the laser is effective?

The laser is ideal for a wide variety of surgical procedures. Laser surgery is often used in cases of soft tissue surgery. The soft tissue supports the structures and organs of the body such as muscles, blood vessels, or adipose tissue. For example:

  • Sterilization of females and males
  • Dental or oral surgery
  • The removal of a tumor or mass.

In all cases where surgery will be required for your pet, we will notify you if it can be done using the laser.
